The Short Story
About
Misitu Africa, named after the Swahili word for “forests,” is a visionary company dedicated to large-scale ecosystem restoration and sustainable land management in Zambia.

Our flagship initiative, Misitu Conservation Project 1 (MCP1) in Ikelenge, covers over 62,000 hectares and aims to sequester more than 1.3 million tons of COâ‚‚ over the next decade, verified under the Social Carbon Standard. MCP1 demonstrates our commitment to balancing mining’s environmental footprint with conservation and community benefits. Building on this success, Misitu Africa is developing Misitu Conservation Project 2 (MCP2), targeting restoration of 250,000 hectares of forest in partnership with The Baushi Royal Establishment in Luapula Province of Zambia.
Our ambitious goal is to restore and conserve 1 million hectares of land by 2030. As a subsidiary of Metalex Commodities Africa Mine, Misitu Africa supports Metalex’s bold intention to become the world’s first carbon-neutral producer of critical metals, integrating sustainable mining with ecosystem restoration and climate resilience.

Our Story

Get to Know Us
We are transforming landscapes and livelihoods through forest restoration, carbon finance and technology. We currently manage over 62,000 hectares of community forest in Ikelenge District of Zambia, protecting biodiversity, creating jobs and removing approximately 131,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide annually.
By 2030, we aim to sustainably manage 1,000,000 hectares of forest, remove 2.1 million tons of carbon dioxide annually, benefit over 3 million people, create more than 10,000 green jobs in forestry, beekeeping, agroforestry and e-mobility and train over 500 Honorary Forest Officers (HFOs). All project areas will be digitally monitored to ensure transparency and traceability with support from Concept X (Homepage - Concept X). Through a nature-based, community-led and technology-enabled model, we are building a climate-positive future not only for Zambia but Africa.

Mission
Our mission is to remove 100 million metric tons of COâ‚‚ by 2030 through verified restoration, while driving carbon-intensive industries toward carbon neutrality.

Vision
Our vision is to use carbon finance to change life without sacrificing profit.
